Beth Beers, a missionary in Peru, posted this photo of her and Gustavo on Facebook last week. The caption asked for prayers, as Gustavo has debilitating scoliosis. I prayed for Gustavo but thought that there was nothing more I could do from up here in IN. When my dad saw the post, he prayed AND he sent an email- an email that very well could save Gustavo’s life.

> Question: Hi, I’m a machinist at the Medtronic Spinal plant in Warsaw, IN. After 11 years, I’ve seen the amazing things or products can do. That came to mind yesterday when I received the following message from my friend Beth Beers who is a missionary in Peru, South America. I know we could help this Young man! Here’s the message I got……
> Please help Nohemy, Emily and I as we pray for our 3 year old friend Gustavo. He lives in Chachani where we have been working and he means so much to us. He was born with sever scoliosis, deformed ribcage and lungs. He has a hard time breathing and walking and that will only get worse the older he gets. When holding him, you can feel the difficulty he has breathing and can hear as he struggles. A boy as sweet and amazing as him deserves a better life. His family cannot afford medical care for him and I told his Mom that miracles do happen. Please send a prayer up for this precious boy that we love so much.
>
> Please tell me who to contact within this company and the Doctors who could help!
>
> Thank You
And this is the response he got:
> Tim, I am the regional director for Spine Latin America… And I would be happy to help little Gustavo live a better life, and fulfill our Medtronic mission. Just to keep you updated I have emailed our distributor in Peru to find a suitable doctor and possibly a foundation that will accept his case. I will donate the instruments and implants at no cost. We will take up a donation to help with the transportation and such if it comes to that. Can you forward the contact information that has contact with Gustavo? I need to try and access any x-rays or information with his parents, to get him to a hospital for a full examination. I might possibly be able to get a real specialist from Brazil, Chile, or Colombia to either take him as a patient or fly in to treat his condition.
>
> Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and please send me as much information as you can so we can get this moving soon.
>
> All my best,
My mind is blown. I am so proud of my dad! And I am so excited for Gustavo!

Today I want to run far and I want to run fast.
I want to go away for awhile.
I want to get away from it all.
If only I were fit to run that far.
Success is getting what you want..
Happiness is wanting what you get.

My Facebook friends always post photos, statuses, and notes about their good fortune, rarely about what is really going on in their lives. I feel it’s necessary to keep my emotions off of Facebook. I don’t want to be a narcissist and I don’t want to depress people into blocking/unfriending me. This year has been rough. It has been stressful and I’ve had days where I want to preface everything I say with four letter curse words. Today I looked through my past tumblr posts and boy are some of them depressing. Some of them don’t even make sense, but I know I felt better after writing them. I am thankful for everyone that I have in my life and for all that I have. This has been a bad year and I’m sorry you had to see me post about it. I’m hoping for a better year in 2012.
THANK YOU for your love and support. XOXO
Everything happens for a reason. I have learned not to trust so easily, never to take more than 10 days of antibiotics, and that kids will be kids.
I gotta stop leaving the lights on in the grocery getter. 2nd jump this week. Oh nuts.
in the last year i have slept through the following:
the focus getting stolen out of my driveway
zeus peeing the bed
the samaratin (rescue helicopter) landing next to our house
